Dolly Parton has always been one of the biggest influences on me as a singer.
There was something about her voice, her storytelling and the emotion she brought to country music that really connected with me. When I began developing my own country style, I found myself naturally drawn to the way Dolly sang. Her warmth, honesty and ability to tell a story through a song became something I tried to bring into my own music.
I was lucky enough to see Dolly Parton perform twice in the USA, and both concerts were unforgettable. Seeing her live gave me an even greater appreciation for her talent, personality and connection with an audience.
I would have loved to have met her and perhaps told her how much her music influenced me, but sadly I never had that opportunity.
Even so, her influence has always been there in my singing. Dolly showed me that country music can be heartfelt, vulnerable, joyful and powerful - sometimes all within the same song.
She will always hold a very special place in my musical journey.
