I just wanted to remember a song I loved growing up. Time Passages by Al Stewart circa 1979
The fact I cannot sing does not mean I will not

Al Stewart's "Time Passages" is a song that reflects on the passage of time, nostalgia, and the bittersweet nature of reminiscing about the past. Released in 1978, it became one of Stewart's most popular songs, known for its melodic softness and contemplative lyrics.

The lyrics speak to the idea of looking back on one's life, with a mix of longing and acceptance. The chorus, "Time passages, buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight," suggests a desire to revisit the past or return to a simpler time. However, the song also acknowledges that time inevitably moves forward and that one must come to terms with the changes that have occurred.

In the verses, Stewart touches on various themes, such as the fleeting nature of time, the impact of memories, and the realization that the past is always out of reach. The imagery he uses, like "photographs of your mama's wedding day" and "the summer sun is fading as the year grows old," evokes a sense of nostalgia and the ephemeral quality of life's moments.

Overall, "Time Passages" is a poignant reflection on the human experience of aging and the complex emotions that come with looking back on the different phases of one's life.

Lyrics
It was late in December, the sky turned to snow
All round the day was going down slow
Night like a river beginning to flow
I felt the beat of my mind go
Drifting into time passages
Years go falling in the fading light
Time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight
Well I'm not the kind to live in the past
The years run too short and the days too fast
The things you lean on are the things that don't last
Well it's just now and then my line gets cast into these
Time passages
There's something back here that you left behind
Oh time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight

Hear the echoes and feel yourself starting to turn
Don't know why you should feel
That there's something to learn
It's just a game that you play

Well the picture is changing
Now you're part of a crowd
They're laughing at something
And the music's loud
A girl comes towards you
You once used to know
You reach out your hand
But you're all alone, in those
Time passages
I know you're in there, you're just out of sight
Time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight

If bravado holds entertainment value, you're there.  Bravo.
You must do some research! Listen to Wild Man Fisher.  He's your path finder in this genre.  He sold songs for dimes to concert goers, waiting in line to get into venues, this was in the mid sixties.  Zappa made a double record of Fisher's accapella tunes.
