“In A Sentimental Mood” is a Jazz composition written in 1935 by the Great Duke Ellington. After his band played a gig they went to a party. Duke was playing when one of his friends started having big problems with 2 woman. To pacify them, on the spot he composed this song with one woman on either side of the piano. It quickly became a favorite of vocalists and recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis. It became an instant jazz standard first recorded by Duke Ellington’s Orchestra and then by Benny Goodman’s orchestra, and in later years by Jazz instrumentalists Sonny Rollins, Roy Eldridge, Lucky Thompson, Stanley Turrentine, John Coltrane and even Bill Joel. John Coltrane recorded with Duke Ellington on piano and this recording is considered a classic.

Oh I love this ... when I married my sweetheart, from where we lived (with my Mother in Law) we could hear the open air night club from the hill across the valley. And this is the kind of music I'd hear deep into the night! Memories! Loving this!
