Interesting use of scales along with an ominous bassline. Is it a whole tone, halftone scale? It suits the scene you are setting.

This gave me shivers Bill. We in Oregon lived this too. While it was happening and Salem skies were smoke filled and a dirty orange, we decided to take our grandchildren to the coast to get them focussed on something else. Got two thirds of the way there and had to turn back. Everything was burning. When we got back to town and dropped our two grandchildren off at their ,my grand-daughter hugged me and said: "Don't die grandpa..." It was a very stressful time!

@zincshed i began with several randomly formed repeating basslines. i picked out two and tweaked them a little without any music theory basis, just intution. that became the backbone of the song. the other parts were improvised and then adjusted to what i felt sounded right. percussion was all loops. i added the modulations last, mostly to break up the repetition and lend a sense of urgency to it.

@Wyndsok that sounds frightening! glad you all survived... to be honest, the imagery followed after i thought about what the music sounded like. nothing that concrete was in my mind while creating it.
