Without a Song" is a Popular song composed by Vincent Youmans with lyrics later added by Billy Rose and Edward Eliscu, published in 1929. It was recorded by many singers that included Billy Eckstine, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mario Lanza, Ray Charles and Mahalia Jackson. It was also recorded by many Jazz artists but my fascination with this song is the recordings by Jazz saxophonists Sonny Rollins, Stanley Turrentine, Joe Henderson and Art Pepper. For me the following recording by Mr. Rollins is so, so Creative!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hP3snBSzYU&list=RD7hP3snBSzYU&start_radio=1
This song’s lyrics are a feel good message why a song in our day is our friend!!!
The drum track in my recording is by the Incredible Marc (WhiteDrum55). A solo spot is open from 1:57-2:49 and the following is the chord progression for rhythm adds.
