Just over one hundred years ago, Prokofiev wrote his classical symphony in a style that, Haydn if he were writing then, might have written. It was one of Sergie's biggest hits. With my lesser talents I've written a piece that I imagined Henry Purcell might have written were he around today. But then who knows he might be writing Rap. Video link: https://youtu.be/cLse3UFhGGY

I do like Prokofiev's 'Classical Symphony'. Other composers have done a similar thing: 'Three Pieces in Baroque Style' by Krzysztof Penderecki, and Stravinky's 'Pulcinella' - both worth a listen. Who knows what Purcell would be writing today, maybe indeed rap? This emulates the 'style' nicely and I do like the ending!
@soulima I think many composers love bringing an older style of a composer they admire into their time. I’m a big fan of Prokofiev, more so than Stravinsky, but Igor was the innovator. Love Purcell’s work and I’ll check out Penderecki’s. Happy you caught and enjoyed this John. (have you done or thought about doing anything like this yourself. I’d love to hear it) Cheers!
@Dyl Hi Dyl, Prokofiev’s one of my favorite composers. Some of his work can be dense but some are extremely accessible. His Classical Symphony’s a good place to start, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W18N6GipdE
then there’s his Romeo & Juliet ballet especially Dance of the Knights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VY-A7GVLyQ
and finally his 5th symphony https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCXaPxeSkkIand
Music, especially great music is one of my passions. Forgive me for being so forward but when an exceptional musician expresses interest in some great music I just can’t help myself.
Great idea, Bowman.
Imagining Purcell writing today is a wonderful concept. Knowing today’s music industry, he might well be releasing baroque rap singles every Friday.
