Love For Sale was written in 1930 by Cole Porter for the musical “The New Yorkers”. Many Jazz Greats made recordings including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Art Tatum, Charlie Parker, Cannonbal Adderly and Dexter Gordon. What impressed me was the 2021 recording by Tony Bennett collaborating with Lady Gaga because it bridged two very different genertaions. Tony Bennett was 95 and Lady Gaga was 35. Tony Bennett was a pop/jazz singer and Lady Gaga was definiely not that..but… I was blown away how good she was singining swing/jazz. The following link is the official Bennett/Gaga recording,video. The subject matter of the song was not received well in 1930 or really ever. But it was embraced in the Jazz World because of how the Major and Minor chord progressions made it swing so well.
