I play a Cannonball Tenor Saxophone, a 1968 Selmer Mark VI Alto, and a Cannonball Soprano. I don't attempt to sound like any other sax player but look for my own sound and sometimes it looks for me. Now the boring stuff:
I was late to the Junior High School Band audition day. I wanted to play drums. I even took lessons during the summer. The drum section was already full so I had to pick another instrument. I saw a picture of a sax in a dictionary and I thought, Maybe I could play that. I was terrible- all the way thru school, last chair, second chair, that kind of stuff. Then I started jamming in Tech school days and never put it down. I am playing win a New Orleans style horn band now and go out weekly with some local people alot like me and love it.
