Song information
Sometimes you just need a place to escape.
For me, it was the attic. When life got too heavy, I’d head up there for hours — sometimes with my guitar, sometimes lost in a book from my old collection.
I wrote this song a few years ago while I was living in New Zealand — one of the first I did with Gemma and Piotr.
Piotr ended up scrapping it, said it felt a bit too busy?
But I’ve always liked it, and I hope you do too.

Gemma: Violin and Vocals
Piotr: Guitar, Bass, Drum and Mix

Lyrics
There’s a staircase few have climbed,

Past the hall where hours unwind.

Through a door that softly knows,

It’s the room where nobody goes.

Dusty beams and candle light,

Hold me close through winter nights.

The world below can rage and spin,

But peace begins when I walk in.

This is the place my heart can mend,

Where broken days can find their end.

I close my eyes, the whole world slows,

In the room where nobody goes.

Old books stacked against the wall,

Their words still catch me when I fall.

The clock forgets to mark the time,

And all I hear are thoughts of mine.

This is the place my heart can mend,

Where broken days can find their end.

I close my eyes, the whole world slows,

In the room where nobody goes.

Some call it hiding, I call it home,

A quiet shore where I can roam.

The songs I write, the dreams I weave,

Are born each time I choose to leave.

This is the place my spirit knows,

Where silence sings and healing grows.

When the world feels too close, I go...

To the room where nobody goes.

Very evocative lyrics. I find that the changes from minor to major do make the the song more intricate but not "busy".
I presume no social media or smart phones are allowed in this room!

I noticed that music coming out of Christchurch tends to have a lot of space. I think Ben Edwards at The Sitting Room has been influential in propagating that sound. So by those standards, maybe this song is busy.
