Song information
This song created a big controversy at my high school in March 2005. I was a senior and Dr. Kumar was a first-year math teacher. Unfortunately his accent made him very difficult to understand! We all spent more time laughing at mispronunciations than we ever did solving equations. As a result, none of us learned calculus very well. As another result, when I got my new PowerBook G4 I secretly recorded one class period and then mixed Dr. Kumar's voice into a GarageBand song.

I only meant for a few of my friends to hear the song. But within a week, the song had become a hit and Dr. Kumar was a local celebrity. Students were playing the song in the hallways. At UConn people I'd never met started a "Dr. Kumar Fan Club." Even teachers were playing the song in the teachers' lounge.

But Dr. Kumar and my school's administration were not amused. They threatened to flunk me in calculus and suspend me from school. As a compromise, I dropped the class and took a study hall the rest of the year. I had to take the song offline and pretend it never existed.

But the song does exist. To this day, everyone who hears it gets a smile out of it. I'd hope that Dr. Kumar would be proud that so many adoring fans now know and love his voice.

"YEAH! You can use calculators!!!"
