Song information
My wife bought me a weber mandolin for my 50th birthday. I was in my studio learning how to play it and recording my progress as I learned, soon I decided to turn what I was figuring out into a song. I walked out of the studio only to learn that some maniac (who will remain nameless), had shot up the Virginia Tech campus, and killed several students. I did not want this pscychopath to receive any more FaceTime. so he remains nameless in the song and history has forgotten him. I wanted the song to have legs long after he was forgotten. So when we see new wars and atrocities
play out in the present, somehow this song might still resonate… I played all instruments and vocals… young Ben Marino played the drums…

Lyrics
Red is a hint warning
we act Like everything’s fine
The tint of the sky in the morning
Red is an ominous sign

The covenant’s broken
The contract is void the
Anger’s unspoken
and vengeance deployed

Low distant thunder
Far muffled cries
The spell we’ve been under
Will be our demise

Harder and harder to ignore
We’re not in Kansas anymore
Harder and harder to ignore
We’re not in Kansas anymore

Do not be fooled by the stillness
Don’t misinterpret the calm
All of these signs in these uncertain times
Are pointing to one perfect storm

The covenant’s broken
The contract is void the
Anger’s unspoken
and vengeance deployed

Low distant thunder
Far muffled cries
The spell we’ve been under
Will be our demise

Low distant thunder
Mens no Compromise
The spell we’ve been under
Will be our demise

Fine song. Nice mandolin playing. Well written lyrics for the situation it describes

Sadly, it definitely still resonates. But in spite of the tragic impetus for it, it's a fantastic tune. Really great lyrics and the mandolin gives it such a classic sound.

The mandolin playing is terrific. This reminds me of Yes from the Steve Howe days.

I just got a cheap Mandolin is it easy to learn. Sounds like you learned some. It's more when you play it for accents. you got'em all. What's the tuning on a Mando? Great work again!

Mando driven classic, this. Very well done Scott. Lyrics, vocal, arrangement---everything coheres. A story that sadly needs to be told and retold... Sigh...
