I have been on a quest for decades to finish a music project where I am wearing all the hats… write, perform, engineer, mix and master a complete project… Early in my musical life, I thought that learning your instruments and how to perform and engineer your performance was the lions share of what must be accomplished… then I hit a wall where I pretty much stayed for years, and while I don’t believe I have arrived yet, I had a breakthrough about 5 years ago (thank you Tom) that reset my trajectory, and I started to get some real traction. Tom talked me into taking Mixbus 32c for a spin. I downloaded the free version and 2 hours later I downloaded the full version. It was a perfect fit for me. Learning to listen, especially when it’s our own material is very difficult. I became so obsessed with how short my mixes were falling that I was no longer writing and playing I was deep diving in the studio to understand how to sculpt a mix. I also finally tuned my room so that I would no longer have to mix on headphones. The learning curve is slow and the climb feels steep sometimes. So much of what I will be posting will be the old songs, that I was never satisfied with, and are now remixed in Mixbus… I’m in the process now… I finish each mix at -14 LUFS because that is where I believe so many streaming services set their level, but also if I ever get these mastered, it leave some headroom for the mastering engineer… feel free to leave real criticism. There are a few people who were willing to risk that social media minefield of giving me honest feedback, I learned the most from those people and I’m still grateful… you won’t hurt my feelings… Now let’s have some fun!!
