Song information
A friend texted me with, "I have a song title for the next Cupcake Parade song you're going to write: 'Clotted Cream and Lemon Curd'. You're welcome." And the chorus immediately popped into my head, so I wrote it about my niece. The arrangement was inspired by "Green Tambourine" by the Lemon Pipers, and the original version of "Hooked On A Feeling" by B.J. Thomas. Words and music copyright © 2020, 2023 John Mietus. Lyrics
She walks among us on her tiny tiptoed feet
Bearing the weight of sunny days
She makes a friend of any stranger she might meet
They can’t resist her charming ways
Oh! What do you know?
She’s the kind of girl who plucks your heartstring’s bow
Hey! What do you say?
She’s the kind of girl who chases cares away

Chorus
Are we in a dream?
Have you heard the word?
About her clotted cream and lemon curd
I know that it seems
A little bit absurd
It’s only clotted cream and lemon curd
Her special clotted cream and lemon curd

There’s no resistance when she walks into the room
Spreading her sunshine all around
And all the birds begin to sing a different tune
You’ve never heard a sweeter sound
Oh! What do you know?
She’s the kind of girl who shows you which way to go
Hey! What do you say?
She’s the kind of girl who gives you music to play

Chorus
Floating down a stream
Flying like a bird
Within her clotted cream and lemon curd
I know that it seems
A little bit absurd
It’s only clotted cream and lemon curd
Her special clotted cream and lemon curd

Bridge:
She says she has a secret she wants me to know
But she won’t tell and doesn’t show

[Instrumental break]

Oh! What do you know?
She’s the kind of girl who lets the sweet love flow
Hey! What do you say?
She’s the kind of girl who brings light to your day

Chorus
Sounds you’ve never seen
Sights you’ve never heard
All within her clotted cream and lemon curd
I know that it seems
A little bit absurd
It’s only clotted cream and lemon curd
Her special clotted cream and lemon curd

I'd say a mid-summer 1965 to later 60's feel. Great feelings with this. Great Track

A fine pastiche of your above concept. Great Sitar riff with tone to match!

Ahhh, the Brits have returned. I also like how you mix your songs, so period correct.

The Cupcake Parade has done it again! Vocal harmonies blending together like peanut butter and jelly, or in this case, like lemon curd and clotted cream. Just Dick

Almost a Beatles cum Who track. Two of my top fav bands ever. I really like how you did the background tracks. More than a few times it genuinely gave me that 60s production feel. Maybe the specific verb you used? Whatever, it worked.

Has a gentle naivety. A genuine good feeling song. Stylistically like a 60's Brit-pop song, as several members have identified. Well put together. Congratulations.
