Song information
I was born, raised and still live in the South. The U.S. South, that is. Apparently there are a lot of Souths.

I've lived my entire life in Mississippi and just over a couple of decades ago I moved back to my hometown. My roots run deep here. I have an ancestor buried not too far from where I live who, as a veteran of the Revolutionary War, moved into this area. We've been here a while.

I feel a strong connection to place. And, good or bad, this is my place. I may not condone a lot of history in this place. I may not agree with the prevailing social and political winds, but this is my home. And I've stayed here because I feel like it needs people like me, and it's taken me a long time to admit that I need this place as well.

This is my tribute to my home.

I originally wrote and recorded this back in 2010 and posted on MacJams of old. Most of this is from that original recording. I replaced the drum loops with Drummer tracks, changed the guitar and bass voices and generally remixed and remastered, but it's essentially the same track.

Hope you enjoy.

Lyrics
Stone

Sometimes I feel like I am
made of stone
But then the winter comes
and the cold winds blow
and the cracks
begin to show

Some times I feel like I am
flesh and bone
and my eyes see the world
for the very first time....

Southern Boy

There is a place not far form here
I feel the Earth is part of me
wind and water take the world away
and I dance beneath the trees

There’s a feeling inside of me
like every thing is new and pure
The sky fades from blue to black
the stars never seemed so bright

I’m just a southern boy in the great big world
and sometimes I lose my way
But when I see the sky and feel the wind
I know where I belong

I’m just a southern boy in the great big world
and sometimes I lose my way
But when I see the sky and I feel the wind
I know where I belong

There is a time not long from now
where past and future meet
I stand forever as my feet take root
I reach my arms into the sky

I’m just a southern boy in the great big world
and ®sometimes I lose my way
But when I see the sky and feel the wind
I know where I belong

I’m just a southern boy in the great big world
and sometimes I lose my way
But when I see the sky and feel the wind
I know where I belong

I’m just a southern boy in the great big world
and sometimes I lose my way
But when I see the sky and feel the wind
I know where I belong

There’s a place not far from here
where I live forever
and time stands still
and everything feels new....

That's a beautiful song. Neil Young comes to mind, but it goes beyond that ... Really cool tune. It rocks.

Just the other day I was thinking about you.
You know I think I remember the original MJ post.
Liked it a lot then. LOVE it now.
As Dyl said there is a bit of Mr. Young here, but so much more.
Superb lyrics delivered with conviction.
BRAVO!
