Song information
I stepped into my time machine and dialled in the year 2125.
Moments later, the familiar skyline of Metropolis shimmered into view.
The last time I’d been here was 1923, when I wandered these same streets to glimpse the world my grandparents knew — careful never to cross their path. Back then, jazz spilled from hidden bars, and people marvelled at electric light.
Now, a two centuries later, the city still pulses with life, but everything hums differently. The old fountains remain, yet they no longer obey gravity — water spirals and dances through the air like liquid sculptures. The flappers I once saw twirling under chandeliers now flicker as holograms, eternally laughing, forever young.
And the grand hotel where I once stayed?
It’s a museum now — a shrine to a time when the future was still just a dream.

Verse 1
I walked these streets in nineteen-twenty-three
Now towers pierce the clouds I cannot see
The chrysanthemum motifs still climb the walls
But now they glow with light from deep within

Verse 2
The fountain where we danced is still in place
But water floats in spirals through the air
Those same bold lines, that streamlined art-nouveau grace
Now holographic flappers everywhere

Chorus
Chrome and marble dreams, reaching for the sky
Zigzag lightning bolts where the airships fly
Sunburst patterns spinning, stories high
The future wore the past like a black-tie butterfly

instrumental

Bridge
They kept the elegance, the symmetry divine
Chevrons and trapezoids in perfect rows
The same champagne towers, but they defy the line
Of gravity itself, as up it flows

Verse 3
I stood where my hotel once touched the clouds
Now it's a museum for the curious crowds
They took our wildest architectural dreams
And built them higher, wider, centuries deep

Chorus
Chrome and marble dreams, reaching for the sky
Zigzag lightning bolts where the airships fly
Sunburst patterns spinning, stories high
The future wore the past like a black-tie butterfly
