Song information
I haven't been around much lately for various personal reasons - life has its ups and downs. But I didn't want the season to pass by without posting a little something.

This is a tune I originally did back in 2025, I think. There have been a few versions since - all of which were on MacJams of old under the title "Yule" - and this one comes maybe from 2010 or 2012 and was a complete re-recording of the original, adding percussion and an instrumental section. In recent years I've reworked it a bit again. Remixed and remastered and general cleaned it up.

It's just a general Solstice type song, or at least what I think of a Solstice type song. And it has a whole lotta vocal track to deal with when mixing. Fun.

Hope everyone is well and thoroughly enjoys whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year. And I hope to be back once the chronometer turns over a new year with some brand new music.

Until then, ENJOY!

Lyrics
Away into the snowy woods the men and boys have gone
to find the forest bounty and return to hearth and home
When they return we’ll light the fires and sing the songs of old
we’ll feast until the light of day and tell the tales of yore

Pretty Polly dance with me until the light of day
Then lay your weary head to rest upon a bed of hay
I promise you when springtime comes I’ll spin this hay to gold
But now it’s time to dance and sing as this cold night grows old

The old man fades as the fires grow dim, the new year’s yet to come
Winter’s chill falls across the land touching every hill and farm
Tomorrow brings a new day’s toils on freshly fallen snow
But for tonight we laugh and sing to chase away the woe

Pretty Mary dance with me until the light of day
Then lay your weary head to rest upon a bed of hay
I promise yo@u when springtime comes I’ll spin this hay to gold
But now it’s time to dance and sing as this cold night grows old

The fire burns bright, the children sing, the ale begins to flow
We laugh and sing all warm inside while out the cold wind blows
Come old winter rest your feet by the craklin’ fire
As long as there is food and drink, the pretty girls don’t tire

Pretty Bonnie dance with me until the light of day
Then lay your weary head to rest upon a bed of hay
I promise you when springtime comes I’ll spin this hay to gold
But now it’s time to dance and sing as this cold night grows old

Away into the snowy woods the men and boys have gone
to find the forest bounty and return to hearth and home
When they return we’ll light the fires and sing the songs of old
we’ll feast until the light of day and tell the tales of yore

I really like the folky ethnic vibe. Christmas in the Scandinavian languages is jul (soft J like yul). A word that goes back to before christanity as a feast for the return of the sun and longer days
