Jethro Tull’s frontman Ian Anderson once sang:

“You’re never too old… old…old, to rock and roll… roll…roll,
if you’re too young to die.”

Well, I turned 73 on the 22nd of this month, and I’m nowhere near dead just yet.

It’s time to rock out!

Truth is, that while my last few songs were a bit on the light side, the itch
to make some noise again has been steadily growing.

So please pardon me as I scratch that itch!

I hope some of you can enjoy this one.

Be well my friends!

Lyrics
 LIVES OF SIN & EXCESS

I
Overstimulated brains.
Sensory overloaded strain.
Trial and error. Joy and pain.
Lives of sin and excess…

II
All aboard this runaway train!
Tickets please! No pain no gain!
The passengers are all insane,
and speeding towards disaster…

Chorus:
You Who sit enthroned above,
show Your power! Show Your love!
Save us, save us from ourselves!
Turn this train around…

III
Life is fired at us point blank.
Our choices are a smoking gun.
Try our best to duck and run.
We cannot dodge sin’s bullet!

IV
Victims of our inner night.
Lost in darkness. Void of light.
Who of us can make this right?
—These lives of sin and excess…

Chorus:
You Who sit enthroned above,
show Your power! Show Your love!
Save us, save us from ourselves!
Turn this train around…

V
The more we strive, the more we strain,
the more we try to break these chains;
the more we find ourselves enslaved,
—locked in sin and excess!

VI
Moving now at breakneck speed;
fueled by artificial needs.
Is it death will set us free,
from this sin and excess?

Chorus:
Christ Who sits enthroned above,
Show Your power! Show Your love!
save us, save us from ourselves!
Turn this train around…

Some will rise and some will fall though
You’ve provided grace for all.
Some reject—some heed the call,
—that saves from sin and excess.

Loved this one Mike !! Just the right amount of everything. A little grunge, your awesome guitar riffs, keyboard that for some reason reminds me of Emerson,Lake, and Palmer, and of course your spot on lyrics. Keep em coming brother.

This song has surely achieved Rock Anthem status.  Nothing is as effective as making music for getting the heebie-jeebies out!

mike, you don't sound a day over 30 in your singing and playing.  Love that intro and the keys.  Great rock music with a good message.

Well Matt, although I'm happier than I've ever been, and still in pretty good health, there are definitely things I miss about being 30! Lol ..

Thanks Gerald. I posted too soon though. I have since made corrections to some of the vocals as well as redone that big ending. I'll eventually post the update.
I appreciate your listening and commenting very much.

Great vocals; a unique stylistic blend--perhaps of The Clash, early Deep Purple?

@GaryOVail
Hello Gary! Early Deep Purple is a possibility. I was a big fan up through the "Fireball" lp. As for the Clash, I've never listened to them. By the time they were popular I had thrown myself into the Celtic/English folk rock scene. I have a cover of "London Calling" by a Canadian folk rock group but am not impressed by it. My influences are many and varied as I have been a serious listener to music since the early 1960s.
Thanks for listening and commenting friend!

73?!? You look like a 40-year-old with the energy of a 20-year-old… the purest meaning of the word “rock.”

Really great work here.  Nobody is ever really too old to rock out.  The organ and vox really stand out though everything here sounds great.  Fantastic guitar solo too.
