Well stand on my head and call me “Shorty”!

While looking through some old files in search of a certain guitar setting to
re-use on an upcoming newbie, I stumbled on this long forgotten instrumental
from back in 2010 (I think…).

As the individual file stems are lost, and I had only the finished piece to work
with, I doctored it up the best I could with some further EQ-ing.

This is one of those tunes that is best listened to on the headphones due to
panning and delay effects on the lead guitar. So sit back, relax for a couple
minutes, and take a breather from all the polarizing politics…

:-)

Enjoy my friends!

Another fine piece of your work Mike !  In order to take a breather from polarizing politics, one would need to put it in a continuous loop and let it run..ha

Lowered my political temp some but it’s still in the red. But I enjoyed this fine instrumental Mike. Nice strumming my friend.

Definitely a great headphones listen. And very cool guitar work throughout. To me, kind of had a classic western sountrack sound with a bit of modern flare.
Thanks for sharing!

To jgurner's point, this song took me back to joyful memories of Mountain's "Theme From an Imaginary Western." ❤️👏

Great one Mike. I like how you echoed the lead to the other side.  Nice playing.  Did you wing it or is it thought out ahead of time?

A moldy oldie to fill in the space between newbies! Glad I found it and glad you like it brother.

Still in the red Charlie? Oh well...
My next tune probably won't help much in
that respect I'm afraid. One can always try
deep breathing exercises. I find prayer, meditation,
and a strong belief in Providence helpful in stressful times. Making music doesn't hurt either...
Be well friend!

Welcome back Joseph! It's been a few years and I'm not sure what my inspiration was for this tune. If it sounds somewhat Western it's purely accidental... Another song I did close to the same time (my cover of Ridd Sorensen's "These Odds") features a lot of the same delay effects on the lead guitar. I must have been in an experimental mode. Perhaps I was listening to a lot of Hendrix!
Anyway, thanks for clocking in on this one my friend!

I loved Mountain and their cover of Jack Bruce's "Theme For An Imaginary Western." Although it comes in third on my list of faves after "Travelin' In the Dark" and "Nantucket Sleighride." Leslie was a force to be reckoned with. R.I.P.
Thanks for listening and commenting!

Thanks Matt. As to your question:
I probably followed my usual procedure with leads. Once I have the rhythm guitar in place I'll record up to five passes (playing purely by feel), and then edit together the best parts of each pass. (For some strange reason I never keeps the mistakes! Lol...)
So I kind of "wing it" I guess.
I hope that helps.

Ha ha... You see Gian, I also like using a lot of delay on my guitars once in awhile. Perhaps it's what attracts me to your work?
Thanks for listening my friend!

I'm reminded of Neil Young's 'Hey Hey My My- Into the Black' with the heavy distorted guitars.
Enjoyed it Mike

The layering is all due to using three different delay settings (if memory serves). I do remember being surprised at how pleasant the end result was. Sometimes it pays to experiment!

Welcome back Dyl. Hope your brief time away was fruitful and enjoyable!
Glad I found this old gem. With all the distortion on the rhythm guitar it's very difficult to tell it's slightly out of tune. Ha! (Oh well... Even the Beatles weren't always fully in tune!)
Glad you enjoyed this one my friend!
