This is about humanity's relationship with nature and the cost of progress. I look at how people have looked to the natural world for inspiration, watching birds to build aircraft, copying the patterns of rivers, roots and trees to design our machines. As we keep taking from nature piece by piece, how far will we go, and what are we giving up along the way? It's a reflective piece about innovation, ambition, and the tension between advancement and what we leave behind.

Lyrics
METAL WINGS
by Gerald G ©Copyright 2026

Verse 1
We watched the birds and learned to fly
Built metal wings across the sky
We copied rivers, roots and trees
And turned their patterns into machines

Chorus
How far can we go before we know?
What do we gain, what do we let go?
We take from nature, piece by piece
But where does progress ever cease?

Verse 2
The spider showed us how to weave
The leaf taught power how to breathe
We shaped the world from what we saw
Then built beyond the natural law

Chorus
How far can we go before we know?
What do we gain, what do we let go?
We take from nature, piece by piece
But where does progress ever cease?

Verse 3
Now machines can learn and almost see
Designed from life and memory
We crossed a line we cannot name
And wonder who will rule the game

Chorus
How far can we go before we know?
What do we gain, what do we let go?
We take from nature, piece by piece
But where does progress ever cease?

I share your very real concerns friend and love this tune.
Insightful lyrics delivered with conviction over a bed of energetic music with a plaintive piano melody. What's not to like?

We went from Kittyhawk to the Moon landing in just 66 years. That's an absolutely amazing advancement in such a short period of time, but for quite a while, I've wondered if technology is moving faster than we mere humans can keep up with. The rapid encroachment of AI makes me wonder even more. And I say that as someone who would desperately love to live in a Star Trek type future. This song really nails that dilemma on the head. Great job!

Well written. Obscure subject, but well told. The title is very appropriate. So is the tune! I enjoyed this.
