Song information
Ah, my first overseas trip… I still hold onto that memory like it was yesterday! I was 17, heading off as an exchange student to Canada (so exciting!). I remember my mom constantly hovering over my shoulder, curious about what I was planning—probably double-checking I wasn’t sneaking any crazy ideas into my itinerary. I had travel books piled high, maps spread out everywhere, and an adorable collection of stuffed animals: bears, beavers, and yes, even a beluga whale. Because why not?

This song captures that sweet little snapshot in time.

Now, recording it… well, that was a journey too! I lost count somewhere after 40 takes (no kidding). Piotr, in all his brilliance, laid down this rough timing vocal for me to follow—don’t ask me about the crazy time signatures he loves to throw in these days. I just nodded and went with it. After all that effort (and maybe a few choice words along the way), I’m so happy with how it turned out. Totally worth the sweat!

Lyrics
Far Beyond the Maps by Mojca Czarka

I’ve got a map on my bedroom wall
Dreaming of places I’ve never seen at all
Grey skies of Warsaw, familiar streets
But I’m chasing colors in distant dreams

Saving my zloty in a little jar
Counting the days, I know it’s not far
A suitcase waiting beneath my bed
Filling it up with hopes in my head

I’m flying far beyond the maps
Where oceans sparkle, and time runs fast
New faces, new words I’ve never known
Leaving this small town, finding my own
Every heartbeat’s racing free
This world’s so big, and it’s calling me

(instrumental)

Stories from books and old TV shows
But I want to feel the sun where it glows
Taste the strange foods, dance in the streets
Laugh with strangers I’m yet to meet

Mama says, “Girl, don’t forget where you’re from”
But I’ve got this fire, it beats like a drum
Postcards and pictures, they’re not enough
I need the sky, the air, the rush

I’m flying far beyond the maps
Where oceans sparkle, and time runs fast
New faces, new words I’ve never known
Leaving this small town, finding my own
Every heartbeat’s racing free
This world’s so big, and it’s calling me

I'm not much of a traveller (some by choice, mostly from lack of opportunity), but I do get that urge to go and that feeling of exploring new places and meeting new people. You capture it wonderfully here. Love the lyrics and the accompaniment s absolutely phenominal.
Thanks for sharing this!

Like everything you do... an instant fave Mo.
This evokes a feeling of wanderlust that I haven't felt since my late teens when I hitch-hiked
all over the USA. (Thanks for the memories!)
Exceptionally good jamming by Piotr and Gemma beautifully support and augment your wonderful
vocal and vocal harmonies.
