Song information
One of the lovely ladies from the aged care centres I often visit passed away recently at the age of 87.

Her name was Eliza, and she had lived a life full of stories, passion, heartbreak, humour, and mystery. She had been married four times and, according to her own colourful stories, had many lovers and affairs along the way. She spoke about it all with that cheeky spark in her eye, as though life had been one long, dramatic dance that she had refused to sit out.

What fascinated me most about Eliza was the contrast within her. On the outside, she was an absolutely beautiful woman with a gentle nature and a warm smile. But beneath that softness lived someone who had been deeply hurt. The only man she ever truly loved had cheated on her, and that betrayal left a mark that never fully healed.

From that point on, it seemed every man who came into her life paid the price for what one man had done. She carried the sting in her tail, not because she was cruel by nature, but because heartbreak had changed the way she loved. In her own way, she spent a lifetime trying to take back the power that had once been taken from her.

You would never have known any of this just by looking at her. You would never have guessed the storms she had survived or the secrets she carried. But I was lucky enough to get close to her while helping with her mobility, and over time, she let me see a little more of who she really was.

I used to call her “Sweetness”, and she loved it.

So, Eliza, this one is for you.

Rest peacefully now, Sweetness. Your story will not be forgotten.

Lyrics

She sits in the old age centre with lipstick on wrong,

Bragging through the tea room like she’s still young and strong.

Four dead marriages and a list she keeps proud,

She names every lover when she talks too loud.

Four rings, dirty sheets, and a heart gone black,

She took her revenge and never looked back.

He cheated once, so she made men pay,

Then called it survival as they walked away.

She learned betrayal in a rented room,

Then carried that poison like cheap perfume.

Good men came close with honest hands,

But she broke them down to settle old plans.

Four rings, dirty sheets, and a heart gone black,

She took her revenge and never looked back.

He cheated once, so she made men pay,

Then called it survival as they walked away.

She loved the attention, the whispers, the sin,

The knock at the door and the trouble walking in.

Even near eighty, she still chased the flame,

With no guilt in her mouth and no shame in her name.

Now her room smells of talc, old wine, and regret,

But she smiles at the ruin she refuses to forget.

She talks like a queen from a gutter-made throne,

Still proud of the wreckage she made on her own.
