Song information
Very old song I wrote about Nanjing Road in Shanghai. Those days I spent a lot of time in China, and Shanghai was still the old Shanghai. Today Nanjing Road is all skyscrapers. There was actually a jazz band playing from a balcony in the old days!
Tommy mixed this one for me. That was when I recorded this song live one a one take.
I took this picture from a hotel room. Those days no high towers in Pudong yet.

Lyrics
Nanjing Road
© March 20, 2008 Stanley Loh. Written in Guangzhou, China.
Nanjing Road is a hot spot for foreign tourists in Shanghai…a shoppers’ paradise. But it has a seedy side.
Intro -- -Bm Esus2/ Bm E/ Bm D/ G7 D/ G7 D

Verse 1
D D7
They trod the concrete tiles of Nanjing Road,
	   Bm G
On a ledge old man plays his saxophone,
		D D7
While shoppers pause to hear blue notes,
G D
Dancers find their grace on cobblestones.
Instrumental - - Bm D/ G7 D
Verse 2
D D7
Working gals tug at foreign sleeves,
	      Bm G
They pester for sexual bread,
	  D D7
And paint the color red on Shanghai streets,
               G D
As shame is swept away by what was said.
Chorus
A F
Nanjing Road, Nanjing Road,
D D7
Your heart is set to explode!
G D
Nanjing Road, Nanjing Road,
     A D D7 G
Your neon eyes will wake the unbestowed…oh!
                           G D
Nanjing Road, Nanjing Road
Instrumental - - Bm D/ Bm D/ G7 D/ G7 D
Verse 3
D D7
The nouveau riche adorned with pearls,
	                 Bm G
One can’t tell the fake from the real,
	     D D7
They flash their wealth like English Earls,
                   G D
And spurn the beggars to no avail.
Repeat Chorus
