Song information
This song began as a rough little guitar recording I made years ago while living in New Zealand. At the time, it was nothing more than a simple musical idea, inspired by the feeling of sitting high on a mountain top and looking out over the world below.
There is something truly unforgettable about the South Island of New Zealand, especially around Milford Sound. The views are breathtaking - dramatic mountains, deep valleys, open skies and that feeling that you are standing somewhere almost untouched by time.
Piotr took that original rough recording and completely rebuilt the track from the ground up, playing everything as an early draft. Naturally, us girls loved it. To be honest, we love almost everything this maestro touches. He really is a genius.
More recently, Gemma added her accordion parts, bringing even more character and warmth to the song. I then added the guitar, and bit by bit Piotr kept building the arrangement, adding extra touches along the way, including the mandolin.
He absolutely loves that f*cking instrument, and I am very glad he does, because I love it too. Somehow, it gave the song exactly the colour and life it needed.

Gemma: Accordion, Backing Vocals
Piotr: Mandolin, Bass, Backing Vocals and Mix
Me: Guitar, Lyrics and Vocals

Lyrics
I climbed the path as morning broke,
With golden light across the stone.
The valley stretched so far below,
And I felt peaceful as I stood alone.

The rivers shone like silver lines,

The trees rolled softly in the breeze.

The clouds moved slowly through the sky,

Above the hills and endless seas.

From the top of the mountain,

The world looks calm and wide.

Every road and river,

Seems to glow in morning light.

The air was clear, the silence deep,

The sun warmed every distant peak.

I wished that I could stay up there,

Where beauty speaks without a word.

From the top of the mountain,

The world looks calm and wide.

Every road and river,

Seems to glow in morning light.

So I’ll carry that view with me,

Wherever I may go.

The mountain gave my heart a song,

And I’ll never let it go.

From the very first notes on the accordion and mandolin, it sounds so good. And yes, mandolin is such a fine instrument, especially in the right hands ... Love the laid-back feeling of the song, both from lyrics and music. Really beautiful. So ... when is this album finally out ?

That's a real nice song, but I wouldn't expect anything less from you Monica.  Great singing as usual, and great choice of instrumentation.
