My studio journey from home studio to global facilities or, 'Becoming a salmon and swimming against the tide, no matter what'

(Note: I realised that I would likely not be able to do this justice in one sitting. So forgive me, but I will have to turn this into a serialised blog. Sorry about that)
Dr_J, the fantastic saviour of the ex-iCompositions community asked me if I wouldn’t mind penning a blog post.
I said “yes, of course”
You see, he heard that the home studio I was using when I was active on iCompositions had now expanded to be a professional studio. I say studio… It’s now actually fourteen studios. Five in London, three in Hampshire (west of London), and six in Cape Town, South Africa.
It sounds impressive and, sure enough, they are now a multi-million dollar business that I am very proud of. However, that isn’t the full story.
I LOVE studios. I mean, I really looooove studios. When I first entered a recording studio in the late 70s I was already obsessed with every aspect of studio recording and, after my band broke up I was lucky enough to be retained by a (subsequently famous) studio as a session musician, meaning I could continue my love affair with these smelly pits of iniquity for a little longer.
