We can't find the internet
Attempting to reconnect
One Vote Vocals and lyrics by Mary McGrath copyright 7/13/24-All rights reserved One vote, one minute shred of hope, as we stuff our ballots and wait for the news. And hope that it's something that we want and can use, but maybe it's just a media taunt that continues to amuse us with slogans that we want stations begging for bits and bytes and and clicks throughout the night. So many promises to rearrange what has happened, but it’s often the same as before just a different candidate’s name on the door. One vote, the simple passing of a ballot note in the lobby deals made and then broken pass a few bucks and shove them into an open hand a token favor so small seeming grand. Hoping both candidates will maybe play nice, but there’s always a slice of malice as slander sachets back-and-forth like a bad dance, With all the name-calling and recalling of old promises, pretending to be new. One vote, one small glimmer of hope, as we watch the flashy colors on the screen, their incisors both so shiny and clean, hoping our one vote is going to be seen. But who's counting, who is recounting all of the things that have happened as people canvas door-to-door saying the same things from before that they will do this and that but often it's the other. Always a platform shift to the left and right, each person exerting their might, Fake phrases delivered in the thick of the night with pearly smiles, and an open hand with fingers crossed out of sight to evade taking a stand.
