Song information
I recorded this song originally during the pandemic. Steve Caustrita helped me out with the original version. Here, this version has a new vocal and drum track. The lyrics are roughly based on a very old movie called "The Candidate," where Robert Redford played a candidate for, if I remember right, for the US Senate, and Peter Boyle was his somewhat aggressive campaign manager. Redford is told at the beginning of the movie that he can run as he can say what he likes as it is highly predicted he will lose. When he wins at the end, he asks somewhat clueless and scared, "So, what am I supposed to do now." The music came up as a homage of the stuff Robert Lamm used to write for Chicago in their 70's heyday, as that band did do a lot of political stuff in their early years. The instrumental breaks with the keyboard was an homage to Pat Metheny, as I've been a fan of his for some time now. Figured I'd put this out there as we are in a very tumultuous campaign year.

Lyrics
You don't know me but I've been watching you a long time
Your father's face is remembered at the drop of a dime
Realize your country needs you more than you can see
Do the primary run and seek a candidacy

Simply put , you have no chance, feel free to speak your mind
In this large corrupt machine, you'll start a new kind
To be the

CHORUS:
Next spokesman for your neighborhood
Any man in line is a favorite son for all they know

Now weeks have gone by and we have to make a change
The polls show you're showing in the low range
Keep in mind, you can't be humiliated in the run
And there's still plenty of work to be done

Now as your party's nominee time to plan fine
Everything you say and do, to make you walk the line
We set for..

REPEAT CHORUS:

I saw for myself you never wished to seek
The higher office, in the law courts is where you peaked
But if it's all the same, you'd go along anyway
Put forth a top percent, the deal is your way

Nice work son, you've done yourself proud
The people have spoken, they scream for you loud
Sit down and have yourself a nice Tsing Tao
We'll figure out what the heck you're supposed to do now

We'll get the best know-hows, they'll plan your every move
Don't have to speak or even think, just go with our rules
You are the...
