This is most of an outstanding ballad. If I was producing this I would put a reasonable hall reverb on the percussion. What you have is silly. The backing vocals sound harsh and too close, set them back in the mix with reverb. Those support vocals on the outro are effective and sound great.
This is a fantastic tune. Great lead vocals and lush piano playing, just those features that don’t work mess it up for my ears.
Beautifully written song. Sweet soft voice. Lovely chords. I do not mind the long reverb on the snare. It is cool but Daugrin has a point about the vocoded backing vocals. If you back off that vical effect on the backing a bit you would end up with a radio ready track. And with that I say welcome to iBandstand. Oneness resonates well with all us bit crazy music lovers from all over the world.
As far as the reverb on the percussion, you wouldn't hear people do that nowadays, but back in the 80s, it was done. I don't know what effect that is on the background vocals, but perhaps if it were EQ'd to roll off those highs, maybe it could work? Worth trying. But the singing is excellent, and this song has a lot going for it.
