Song information
In late 1967, Syd Barrett, nearing the end of his tenure with Pink Floyd, gave them a song called "Vegetable Man" which was mostly about himself. It wasn't released until decades later. When I heard it, I deduced it wasn't one of their better tunes, and indicative of how far gone Syd was by that time. Nevertheless, I was intrigued the idea of having maybe a completely different tune with the same title. The music was partially inspired by 1967 Beatles, but mostly by "Dinosaur" by King Crimson, with it's lyrical and musical content. Hope you like this one as I feel it's quite ambitious.

Lyrics
I was in the grassy meadows rolling with the trees
When my senses came to an alarm that rolled in with the bees
Seems Sneaky Sam and his nasty men were chopping up the wood
In the interest of their developers who thought that they should

I willed myself to twenty feet tall
Flew in the air with a graceful fall

Rudely forced them upon myself, threw their tools upon my shelf
Made the roots grow up so high, scared them all away

When some came to say thank you
I had dissipated
And fled into the morning dew
Cause I'm no innocent lamb and I'm no watering can
Can't you see I'm Vegetable Man

Sitting with rhododendrons and dandelion fire
When I felt the senses tingle from the power wire
Sam and his surveyors were at the wetlands down below
Set my will on those who'd give them a might blow

Birds of prey flew down from high
They saw them there with their million dollar deals not knowing why

The falcon said they gave a cry
Made them flee by and by
And when they got back to their place of business
They were in for a great surprise

The creatures of the wild will never know
Where it was they got their cunning or hunting skills
They won't find me out
Cause I'm no watering can
Can't you see I'm Vegetable man

And I watch but you don't know
Whether things are breeding or dying
I like when dark rain and snow hits the roots
Cause then nobody's around

A dead tree can't keep you warm
And you don't know if what you slash to store might be mine
Don't you know what I can truly do
Don't you know I'm Vegetable man

Mark, this is INDEED ambitious. Beatles influence is certainly there, and I hear a little "Dinosaur" (one of my fave KC songs) as well, especially in the "mellotron" instrumental break.
Anyway, this is a very clever and enjoyable song, and as Kenneth put it "very well performed."
FAVED!

Hi Mark.. I was not into Pink Floyd so I don't know of the song you mentioned. My 1st impression of this was a George Harrison influence.. There's even a tiny British inflection in your vocals. Does Vegetable Man wear a green cape? This had lots of color to it!!

I like the subject matter.  Good Go.

The story of Syd Barrett is surely one of the saddest in the history of rock, such a latent boy who couldn't stand success and singing in public. Cool song with lot of influences and changes.
