Song information
Sharing a collaboration with BossHook and James Moore from August 29, 2010 (wow - 14 years ago, time flies!) It was fabulous to play with John and James on this tune - what a treat to play with such talented musicians.

Big thanks to @thsantac for his blog on how to use the Internet Music Archive (IMA) - see it here: https://ibandstand.com/topics/229

I was pretty blown away to follow the link below and find the whole original song description page, including the cover art JPG, lyrics, and the SONG itself! The MP3 can no longer be downloaded from the IMA, but it seems to still play when clicking the link. And for icomp alumni, you can get most of the song descriptions and lyrics using links like the one below.

Fun fact: the "one horse" in the JPG we used is in a corral just below Bald Mountain (aka Baldy) in Ketchum Idaho, about 1 half mile from where my great grandparents settled when they moved out west to run the Philadelphia and Company smelter for the mining boom in the Wood River Valley, back when Ketchum and other little mountain towns in the valley at some point might have been considered a one horse town (but I guess not anymore :)

Anyway, here once again, downloadable on iBandstand, after 17 years, we are pleased to share One Horse Town. Yee Haw!

From Bosshook:

Alan (NorthPoint) is such a gem of a songwriter. Whenever he offers me a song to do I fall into the trance of his writing for the most satisfying song experiences.

Here he shares his mining town desolation and desperation of breaking out to find someplace, anyplace better than this One Horse Town.

Alan corralled James Moore for a perfect drum performance and together the 3 of us saddled up and rode it down the dusty trail and back into the barn.

NorthPoint: Words, music, bass guitar, backing vocals

BossHook: Vocals, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, harmonica

JamesMoore: Drums

Lyrics
One Horse Town

Mourn the passing of another lost day
Watch the sunset fade away
And now I stand a alone, as the moon begins to glow,
and not one dog howls

So many hopes and so many dreams
But I held a bad hand, or so it seems
From Butte to Boise now, I tumbled like a roustabout,
until my luck ran out

It's time to get away, gotta make my escape, from this One Horse Town

You know my baby, My prime is fading fast,
gotta get out of here honey before its past
And find a better place, hell just find anyplace,
anywhere but here

Five generations and maybe more
Many altercations and two World Wars
They fought for Freedom, they came home bleeding,
and then they were workin' those mines,
till the day they died

Now the golds all gone, gotta turn my back and run from this One Horse Town

Broken knuckles and blistered feet
Worked them to the bone down every dead end street
And now the sun sets low, I'm like and old scarecrow,
And I'm tumblin down, yes I'm breakin' on down

I've gotta get away, gotta make my escape, from this One Horse Town

And at the the daybreak's light, I'm gonna say goodbye....

A fav then & a fav now. John's voice is splendid as always, and your backing vocals are perfect, Alan. Great tune, great live sound. And real drums... The whole package, my friends. Bravo.

Sounds, at first listen, like a simple country tune, but there is something about this one that makes it something more.   There is a quirkiness about it that is really appealling.   A bit more early 70's folk-rock involved    The guitar and voice on this one are big sellers.

You're welcome 🙂
It reminds me of Supertramp blues songs (sung by Rick Davies).
