Well, we lost BigJimSlade a while back. Then G646, and most recently Paul Curtis.
I realize a site like tends to be a revolving door, and that folk come and go for a host of reasons, but it still saddens me.
Some others have never left us yet are rarely present.
This is a participation based site. How can we help it grow into the vibrant community sites like Macjams and iComp once were? Is this still possible? Or has that ship sailed, and we are here standing on the shore just fooling ourselves?
I'm just wondering if there are ways to not only draw more folks to the site but to entice them to stay on...
@Wyndsok : Mike, according to your blog entries, you seem to worry quite much about this. And that's ok, that's even nice to know. Worrying is caring. The thing is : we have no idea why folks sign in and why they close their accounts or not post anymore. So ... trying to find a solution for some unknown issue is almost impossible. And... you know, this site is about music. Musicians. Artists. So ... egos ? sensitive egos ? Probably. With different limits. A complete fog. This site is friendly, easy to use, works fine. Not enough people in the chat ? Not enough comments and listens ? We all do the best we can. Like Alan (NorthPoint) said in your previous post : we all have to change some habits. Spend less time on social media and more here. Slowly, it'll do the trick, im sure.
I suspect that some may get frustrated with the lack of participants, comments and plays. Thing is this is a fledgling site. Give it time, spread the word and this time next year we will have tens of thousands of members.
I haven't advertised the site yet, because I'm still adding features to make the site ready for prime-time. But I guess we're about ready. I might go ahead and do some Facebook ads soon.
Love all the comments here on the topic. I agree it will take time, but I love Mikes passion to see the site grow. For many, I believe life has grown more complicated, and I like many yearn for the days when life was simpler. Personally, I hope to find more music time in mine.
This platform stands apart from sites like MacJams or iComp, for several compelling reasons. In our fast-paced world, people's lives have undergone transformative shifts. Amidst the chaos, finding even five minutes to lend an attentive ear has become akin to granting an entire hour of one's time – a precious commodity in short supply.
As news spreads and the platform gains traction, social media behemoths like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in driving increased engagement and user numbers. The journey has just begun, and with time, this site's potential will undoubtedly unfold.
I used to collaborate with BigJimSlade on iComp. Shame I just missed him. Just found Sammydix here also, an old iComp friend... People won't leave if there's exciting things happening. So make it happen! :)
