QUIET STREETS By Doreen Yates © September 2007 It’s oh so quiet, sssh so quiet on the streets at night Not a cat, dog, mouse or friendly spider in sight The birds are asleep in their little houses in the trees No sounds either coming from those busy busy honey bees The night owl is keeping watch for all so they can sleep Making sure that no baby birds slip or fall down deep The Moon shines very brightly in the cloudless sky But its not alone, it has the stars to smile and sigh It’s oh so quiet, ssssh so peaceful until Then suddenly we hear it, the worlds no longer still The sound of the bottles rattling and the milkman’s roar He doing his morning delivery at everyone’s front door The birds are starting to sing their beautiful morning song The animal kingdom is awakening, so it won’t be very long Before we see the sun rising with her amazing orange glow Warming up the day for us as about our life we go The insects are awakening now to furrow in the ground Minding that milkman’s feet making that almighty sound Another day has begun on this planet where we live Doors banging, cars hooting, children yelling please give Its soon though is over and once more there is no noise Not a whisper can be heard from those noisy girls and boys Once more the insects can relax, no fear of those big feet It’s oh so quiet at night, only the night owl on the lamp lit street Sssssssssh And then again whose that rattling the dustbin lid Its that cat next door again, Did you put the rubbish out tonight? You didn’t put the lid on properly did you. What have I told you, you didn't put the lid on properly did you,!! I don't know!!!
