Following on from Take Five, this is “Take Ten”. The composition by Paul Desmond recorded for an album of the same name with guitarist Jim Hall.

Even though Desmond is on record as saying he preferred Take Ten, it was impossible for it to achieve the same success as Take Five, his best known composition for the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

Take Ten is also in 5/4 and was first recorded by Desmond with Drums, Bass and Guitar. Here I have created a backing with Keyboards and Strings. Alex has added a superb take on Alto Sax complete with solos.

The cover for Desmond’s album was by Andy Warhol. He was still working as a commercial illustrator when he was commissioned by RCA to produce the artwork. The original image has been reconfigured to make the picture above.
