If you’re a First of May clown under the big top, it’s unlikely you’ll be performing with the Iron Jaw or working the haul. With any luck, you’ll hang with the other joeys in clown alley where you’ll cut up jackpots and ask around about the cherry pie.

Unless you’ve spent a little time laboring in the circus you don’t have any idea what the hell I’m talking about….
Well I come to preach….and I come to preach about something very special

STEP RIGHT UP…Yeah…The Circus… STEP RIGHT UP  

STEP RIGHT UP  

We are a tight-knit group   -   A Community  -  A FAMILY

And through the centuries of our history we’ve developed our own language of unique words and phrases both to communicate meaning amongst ourselves and insulate our community 
from outsiders.  And that’s the way we like it…it can only be that way

STEP RIGHT UP     STEP RIGHT UP

We circus people get down low…and we get low down …and sweaty… 
And we are mighty proud of our stench! Knock you right off your god damn bench.
The language that develops in our traveling shows is tailored to the physical grinding of tearing down, moving and resurrecting our spectacular show as often as need be.
It can be every other day or every other week, but we’re always moving and grinding.
Tearing it down and putting it up.
Pulling up stakes every few days, we leave nothing but trailer tracks in our wake.
That’s why we’re referred to as a “mud circus”.

We’re  brawny, worldly bastards  who dismantle the show and build it up again in the next town, and that why they call us “roustabouts”!  “roustabouts”!    STEP RIGHT UP…y’all
