Lyrics
Country Jazz
I’m a jazzer who has moved out to the country Everything is so much quieter here
I used to run in circles in the rat race
With concrete jungle people everywhere
Now I play the music of the country
Just these three chords on my guitar
So I don’t have much use for all those flat 5’s
No more show off solos like a star
[B]
But every now and then I still am tempted
To play those runs and chords all very fast On instruments that look all old and dented But then that be-bop urge it seems to pass
I’m happy now just to play the country
My audience is happy as me
They don’t have to understand the music And who cares if they clap on one and three
interlude: pedal 2 and 4 || V7 | bIII7 | VII7 | bII7(shots) hold (hold VII chord for double to set up rhythm in Bb) to jazz solo section: rhythm changes double time
out verse:
The countryside is beautiful and natural
The city life is fast and cruel and blind
I didn’t mean this song to get so factual . . . but My truck broke down wife left and my dog died

Very cool song, i love the gentle laid-back treatment you gave to it ("instruments that look all old and dented" hahaha !!), and the interlude (of course). Much enjoyed !

@deezee Thanks for your listen and comment, glad you enjoyed. After all these years have been getting into playing some country tunes through playing with my friends in care homes. Sad to say I was a bit prejudiced but the songs are so perfectly tonal and that has undeniable appeal. I shall check out some of your work soon . . . @Marino Many thanks for your listen and kind comments. I enjoyed our chat the other day. Jazz is more my thing and shall be posting some tunes when I get a chance after this week when things are not so hairy . . .

This is not the country swing you seemed to promise. It is Americana. Nice work, bro!

@pharmakeus Indeed, there’s a long association between jazz and country collaborations, Texas Swing tunes display top notch musical skills and the more contemporary Bonny Rait and Rosanne Cash remain on my playlist with their exemplary players. So great to see you and so many others from IC days. Looking forward to catching up!

Hi Kids, Ladies and gentlemen, this is a real unique treat! This song takes us on a musical journey through the quiet and peaceful countryside, blending the sweet sounds of jazz with the down-home feel of country music. It's got beautiful technical jazz guitar solos that'll leave you in awe, and then it gracefully transitions back to that simple, familiar rhythm of country songs. Now, as the story unfolds, you'll hear references to the quirks of country living – the joys and heartaches, like the memory of a dear old dog and the bittersweet tale of a wife who left. It's a reminder that life in the country isn't all about tranquility; it's about the real, raw emotions that make us human. So, get ready to enjoy this one-of-a-kind musical fusion that'll take you on a journey through the countryside and touch your heart in more ways than one. Dick Clark likes this a lot! I'll give it a 97! Just Dick

Liking it. Great lyrics. "And who cares if they clap on one and three" :-) Nice interlude, too. You've captured the whimsical feel of certain country music perfectly. Well done. Thanks.
