A 100+ year old New Orleans blues seldom heard these days. I use to play trumpet in an old jazz restaurant and the piano player there (now deceased) loved to play this tune. He had the most unusual piano style, used the whole keyboard and made even wrong notes sound right. I’ve tried to imitate it here. Recorded on the iPad using the Ravenscroft 275 piano, I think.
I read an article once that said when this song came out in the 20's some New Orleans musicians claimed the melody was taken from another blues local cats were playing years before called Crying baby blues. Whenever it came out, it's a good blues.
I've been listening to some of y'all's recordings too of these older songs. Some wonderful versions. So great to find other musicians today who appreciate the old standards. Glad to be part of this community!
