THE FALL & THE IMPACT

Well I woke up This morning to begin anew.
I was feeling pretty groggy… didn’t think things through.
Knelt by the mantlepiece to take a pebble from my shoe;
but the flower pot’s wobblin’ on the edge of the sill,
and if the fall don’t get me then the impact will.

Says my radical brother: “It’s a brand new day!”
“Oh, we don’t listen any longer what the wise men say.”
“We got to build from scratch—forget the old ways;”
but the boulder’s rollin’ down the side of the hill,
and if the fall don’t get us then the impact will!

Well the Left wants revolution and the Right wants war!
Doesn’t anyone remember what we came here for?
That cheesy grin of yours soon turn to a frown…
when the activist judges and the neo-COM profs
bring the gulag to your town.

Will we turn back people and start anew,
—restore the foundations ‘fore the game is through?
Or will we trash our last chance to avert the doom?
The sword of Damocles is hangin’ over us still,
and if the fall don’t KILL us
then the impact will!
