I’m a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. I originally hail from Little Rock, Arkansas but currently live in Oxford, Mississippi. I got a cheap electric guitar for Christmas when I was 15 and have been playing off and on ever since. I was first attracted to British blues rock guitarists, Eric Clapton and Alvin Lee, but I then sought out their influences, including BB King, Big Bill Broonzy, Howling Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, and others. Around the same time, I also became a big fan of Lightning Hopkins, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In college and graduate school, I got interested in punk and 80s alternative rock. Some of the bands that piqued my interest were REM, the Dream Syndicate, Sonic Youth, the Meat Puppets, Husker Du, The Replacements, Robyn Hitchcock, and the Pixies. Other bands from this era that I liked had connections to blues and rockabilly, including the Gun Club, X, The Blasters, the Flat Duo Jets, and the Reverend Horton Heat. I played in bands that played originals inspired by these musicians. I also like the bands influenced by these 80s bands, including the White Stripes, Sebadoh, JD McPherson, as well as alt-country artists, Uncle Tupelo, Neko Case, and Ryan Adams. I also became interested in finding the roots of electric guitar. This search led me to discover jazz and jazzy blues guitarists such as Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, Tiny Grimes, Bill Jennings, Junior Banard, and Eldon Shamblin. My current playing combines blues, country, rockabilly, jazz, and alternative rock.
