SPHINX

I
Proud and aloof on the desert floor;
for 50,000 years, maybe more;
a sign for all who seek out
the riddle of our being,
and the origin of our wandering souls.

II
Empires rise and fall back into dust.
The artifacts of our tenancy
decay, and they rust.
Well the Sphinx he sees it all
…his vision so powerful;
perceiving the seed concealed within the husk.

BRIDGE:
He gazes from the still point of the Real;
as we ride the downward arc of karma’s wheel.
Well we’re reaping what we’ve sown;
ground under the weight of our own heels!
How does it feel?

His expression so serene and yet so stern.
Well the world, it cracks and crumbles like a broken urn.
The denizens of death destroy
the few shards that are left;
in the leveling
for which their blind hearts yearn.

In the deep and silent stillness, comes his call…
His voice, it echoes down time’s hoary halls.
My body they may burn,
but my soul it will live on,
until to this bloody sphere I do return!
He stands proud against the sky,
with a twinkle in his eye;
he watches and he waits
for us to learn…
