Another oldie… This time in a more philosophical mood.

If memory serves, BAMBOO was recorded in late 2010 or early 2011. Somewhere thereabouts!

Anyway, this is another one of the victims of the Great Mac Crash of 2011. I no longer have the original file stems. Fortunately my original mix was decent enough.

Once again, through the tech wizardry of our own Tom Hellstens, an old tune has had new life breathed into it!

As always, deep bows Tom!

Lyrics
  BAMBOO

Sun in the sky;
rain from the clouds;
wind through the bamboo,
so straight and so tall…

The storms of this life
are sometimes so hard to take.
Like the bamboo I must bend,
so that I don’t break;
…so that I don’t break.

Love in my heart;
a tear in my eye;
shaking my bones,
but I don’t know why.

Ever since I was a child,
haunted by this thing I feel:
the world that surrounds me,
it seems so unreal;
…it seems so unreal.

Sun rain and wind,
they’re calling my name.
The wind and my life’s breath,
are one and the same.

Sound of the sea;
roar of the waves;
eroding the shoreline,
of my life and being!

Will I ever learn to
navigate this ebb and flo?
Or will I remain
caught in the undertow?
Ahh….

Another nice track Mike and Tom. I think we share many of the same influences.

This one is in the San Francisco zone.  Just before the Prunes maybe?  Like Love or Messanger Service, and because of that Jack will show up any second.  Just saying.

Hey Shaun, I think you're right about the influences, although I don't think I was "under the influence" when I recorded this years back... LOL

RE San Francisco, back when I first recorded this tune I was very careful to "wear some flowers in [my] hair."

What a great rock ballad. Great choice of instruments. I love the flute solo. Super use of stereo effects. Super dynamic mastering.

Reminds me of my early FM Underground rock radio listening as a child.. definite Asian flavor to this. Appealing flute interjection. Captivating.. Fine collaboration

I remember well when early Underground radio commenced. You could hear stuff in nearly every genre. And... apart from some fun hippie ads... with no da*n commercials! It was great, albeit short lived.
So many thanks for the complimentary comment my friend!
Glad you enjoyed this effort!

Whilst listening I couldn't shake the woodstock feeling this song gave me off.
You created a special sound and story here,  with lovely instrumentation. I'm glad you brushed it up and posted it again!

Charlie,
Music is the poetry of sound. Poetry is the music of the word.
We are all poets here to one degree or another my friend!
Thanks so much for the kind words...

That opening synth really made my headphones tremble then this just opened up into an amazing soundscape and I love that vocal reverb ! such a wonderful listen and kind of ironic that its called Bamboo as my wife and I have been gardening most of the afternoon :-)
What amazing lyrics " sun rain and wind , they're calling my name, the wind and my life's breath, are one and the same " WOW .....

Tim,
Yes indeed. Old songs with a new feel! Been listening a lot to Stephen Wilson's remixes and remasters of old Jethro Tull albums and been blown away. Now, thanks to Tom, I get to have my best oldies get a sonic facelift.
Thanks for listening and commenting. I really appreciate it!

Sounds a bit Oriental ... my first paper in Rural Economics scored an A. It was on Bamboo. In fact I wrote another paper a month ago about the Giant Bamboo...which grows about a metre a day! Great plant for biomass feedstock for bio-fuel. Your tune still rings in my ear...it's a good tune therefore.
But bamboo do not grow near the sea or shorelines. I'm being picky! LOL!!!!
"Like a bamboo I must bend"...that's a very good line!
All told, a very good composition!

Stan,
Thanks for the thumbs up my friend!
But to clarify:
The song is not about "Bamboo" per say. That's just the primary, though not the sole metaphor.
The song is about being a part of nature and the search for meaning...
