On April 6, 1862 the battle of Shiloh began. It ended with almost 24,00 casualties and turned the tide of the Civil War. One day I came across the word Shiloh and vaguely remembered it was a battle fought between the North and the South but little else. I did a bit of research then began to compose what could be called a march toward the inevitable. For anyone curious there's an updated version of this on YouTube with some slight revisions and better balanced mixing. And you get to see a large and detailed image of that magnificent painting. This is a great piece that truly invokes the atomsphere of war and the glory of a victorious battle. I read a lot about history, so I can truly appreciate this.
@KennethLavrsen Never fought in a war myself, still I believe I know something of what it must have been like and tried to express it in music. Thanks Kenneth.
The music fits very well. Love how it builds up, just like a reall battle, and by 5min mark the last clash begins. A lot of battle music I hear is very brass heavy I've noticed, you have done it very well here without all those repetitive pounding brass hits. Good one.
Good use of ostinato (a repeating rhtymic idea) to maintain interest. Nicely typical French horn and brass here. I like your use of dissonance. Great build toward the end, Charlie!
Love how your music captures the suffering from battles of the past. Whether it's civil war or holy wars they make an amazing inspiration. Love the voices at the end.
