Song information
This song was originally written and recorded back in 2011.

The original file stems were lost when my old Mac G5 crashed in late 2011, leaving me with just the finished track on a CD.

I have always been rather fond of the music in this one, but the original lyrics were rather bizarre. Thankfully, I recently was able to strip away the original vocals, using Karaoke tech!

I re-wrote and re-sung most of the lyrics, and then did some fresh mastering.

Now it’s just a good ol’ love song!

Heartfelt thanks to the legendary (and now retired) Scott Fugate for his excellent live drumming!

Please enjoy!

Lyrics
ALL ROADS

I
When we were oh so young and
as close as we could be.
It seemed like there was nothin’
could ev’r part you and me.
Came the dark night of temptation,
thoughts of straying did intrude…
In In the end I always found that,
all roads lead back to you!

II
My wife and lover we’ve been
together all these years.
We’ve had more than our fair share
of laughter and of tears.
No matter what I’m feeling…
No matter what my mood…
In the end I always find that
all roads lead back to you!

Bridge:
The road we walk goes ever on…
the wheel of life turning round and round;
until we all full circle come,
—the hidden is revealed,
and the lost is finally found!

III
You are my inspiration,
my love, my constant joy.
I hope you’ll always trust in
these words I do employ:
through all life’s ups and downs, babe,
there’s one thing always true.
In the end I always find that
all roads lead back to you!

Hey!

All roads lead to Rome. And that is where all roads end.

I really appreciate the emotional honesty in your lyrics. Very catchy tune; I like the chorus pedal guitar, the excellent solo portion, and the great drums

Great song Mike.  Top notch as usual.  Love the synth and guitar solo too.  Does your wife live in Rome by any chance? 😜

Ugh... Crashes and accidental deletes! Quite a few over the years. Thankfully only one song was ever permanently lost. All I have left of it is the lyrics. Can't remember how to play it though! LOL...
Thanks for listening my friend!

Thanks so much Joyce! I've found that one's life story/experiences and/or one's deep convictions make good material for songs. Like the adage goes: "Write about what you know." Or at least about the people and things you LOVE.

I appreciate the kind words Omar. I especially appreciate your singling out the solo. It's one of my faves. Not complex, but I seemed to hit the right notes emotionally. That doesn't always happen as often as I'd like! LOL...
Be well my friend!

Thanks Gary. The original was done in 2011. I was in better voice back then. Trying to re-sing this one in 2024 was extremely difficult for me. Glad I didn't wait a couple more years to try. Might not have been able to pull it off!

Thanks Matt. Before I figured out how to remove the old vocals from this finished track I tried to re-record the whole song from scratch, but I could not duplicate the synth. I had used an old keyboard belonging to my younger brother Tom. It gave up the ghost shortly after recording the song. It had a unique sound that I just couldn't let go of! I'm so happy I could just replace the vocals and leave the rest of the piece as is. Amazing what we can do these days with technology!

You are welcome @Wyndsok  I've been following Foundation recently. In Asimov's books, the galactic centre is Trantor and he writes about an old song "All stars lead to Trantor, and that is where all stars end" Which of course goes back to the song Asimov knew. And your beautiful song reminds.

Ha! The Bowie thing again... I always take it as a compliment even though I never liked his music (except for one early song). Glad you enjoyed this Dyl. It's one of my fave oldies musically.
Be well friend!

@Wyndsok i'm also not an expert on Bowie's music, but YES it is a compliment, and refers only to some vocal tones... You have your own style in everything you do, amigo !

This is a great song.   Your vocals are always good, but they're espcially at the top of the game on this song.  The tone of the rhythm guitar really grabs my attention as it sounded a bit lilke what the Pretenders had when James Honeyman Scott was still around.   Everything else involved shines real good too.

@Venturesome
Thanks for giving this a spin Mark. As for the vocal, back when I recorded the original tune in 2011 I was in much better form. As I wrote above, the lyrics were embarrassingly weird so I deleted the old vocal track, and re-wrote and re-sung them. My vocal range has declined somewhat since 2011 and I can tell the difference. I appreciate the encouraging words I've gotten on the new vocal, but I'm glad I tackled this before my range declined further!
Forgive the long response. I'm caffeinated! Lol..
