Some of you may remember Michael Marquesen. At MacJams.com he was known as Michael2. He was a very creative individual who was always up for a collaboration, and a kind and compassionate soul. Like myself, he was a devoted fan of George Harrison.
Anyway, I recently decided to seek him out and invite him to this site. Inquiring of my good friend Vic Holman as to Michael’s whereabouts, I was deeply saddened to find out that he passed away from a cardiac arrest back in 2019.
In 2007, Michael posted an unfinished piece and invited folks to play with it. I don’t remember if there were any other takers, but I was quite moved by the piece, and I asked him if I could just jam over it. Upon his approval, I produced this somewhat experimental tune, originally titled “Aftermath.”
I pretty much just went with the flow, allowing the emotion generated by Michael’s piece to inspire me. My playing herein is live, spontaneous, and very loose. Except for a one brief overdub near the end, and the addition of a few delays, it was played through in a single pass (something I never do).
I’m afraid the end result has more of FEELING than of skill in it… but somehow seems to work, IMHO.
Upon hearing of Michael’s passing, I decided to resurrect this tune to honor his memory.
Over the years, several of our fellow MacJammers and iCompers have passed into the light. This tune is offered up in memorium for each and every one of them.
Hey Michael! Say hi to George for me!
