Song information
This is the first new song I’ve recorded in the year and a half since I injured my left hand at work. (I recorded “Caught In The Web” just before that happened.)

I’m still a bit stiff in the fingers, and my middle finger sometimes snaps when I’m moving from G to D. (“Oh little man, how you have suffered…” Ha ha!)

Anyway, I’ve long been a fan of Todd Brodman’s guitar playing.

After hearing him afresh on this site, I determined that as soon as I had the proper vehicle, I would ask him to play lead on it. Well, as you have no doubt surmised, I asked and he agreed.

Frankly, I can’t imagine a more perfect fit for this tune!

Next along came William Shakespeare, with his observations on music, which—upon reading—I felt simply MUST be sung!

However (and you may rest assured of this), I WAS careful to consult old Bill’s ghost for permission to use his words in a punk rock song.

He replied as follows:

“Thou mayest, as long as thou dost give me full measure of credit for the lyrics.”

What a guy!

So heartfelt thanks to Todd—and ol’ Bill—for helping a brother out…

PLAY ON…

1st Refrain:
(Twelve Night 1.1.1)
“If music is the food of love
play on”
(play on)

play on”
“If music is the food of love

(play on)
“If music is the food of love

I
(Taming Of The Shrew 3.1.9)
“Preposterous ass, that never read so far,
to know the cause why music was ordained!
Was it not to refresh the mind of man,
after his studies or his usual pain?”

2nd Refrain:
“If music is the food of love
play on”
(play on)
“If music is the food of love
play on”
“If music is the food of love

(play on)
“If music is the food of love
play on”

II
(Romeo and Juliet 4.5.126)
“When griping griefs the heart doth wound,
and doleful dumps the mind oppress,
then music with her silver sound,
with speedy help doth lend redress.”

Refrain:
“If music is the food of love
play on”
(play on)
“If music is the food of love
play on”
“If music is the food of love
play on”
(play on)
“If music is the food of love
play on”

III
(Merchant Of Venice 5.1.83)
“The man that hath no music inside
is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night…
Let no such man be trusted.”

Well, I certainly don't hear any stiffness in the guitar work, Mike -- sounds great to these tiring ears. I also dig your vocal tone a great deal -- when I get around to recording my David Bowie pastiche, I may tap you to record the vocals. :D

Mike your vocal work is great. Crisp and clean vocals really make these theatrical pieces. Todd’s guitar is working on this nicely. Kudos to Todd for stepping up! Your production template is serving this song. Bravo!

This is great… I guess we all have to deal with physical limitations from time to time, but I could never notice it in this song. Great vocals, too!

I think the Bard would have enjoyed this and maybe even benefited from your music in between some acts. You never know. Great production on this outstanding song Michael. Cheers, Charlie
