Song information
This track was first released on my first CD "jiguma dreaming" in July 2007.

It was written as a response to the war in Lebanon at the time. 16 years later, here we are again in Gaza, with 136 Palestinian children being killed per day over the past 30 days.

The song is still pretty relevant.

This is a significant re-mix and re-master of the 2007 version. New vocals, bass, drums and percussion, but still the same amazing electric guitar tracks which were contributed by the late/great Fran Dagostino (ziti). I never gave Fran enough room to move on my earlier mix, but hope to have made up for it here. The anger and sadness he added with his guitar makes the song what it is. I'm pretty sure he would have been happy to see it have another moment in public.

I could never believe my luck that a player of Fran's ability might want to play on my songs, but there are a few kicking around from the years before he passed away early in 2014.

So, this is for the innocents on both sides of this latest conflict - and a tribute to "Fran The Man".

Give it time to build to hear Fran do his thing!

Lyrics
Blown Away
© 2006 Neil Porter

I’m so sad
Another sleepless night
Heartless missiles flying
Desperate people crying
Over there

It’s so bad
I don’t know how you sleep
All of this attention
No signs of intervention
Over there

Leaders give the orders
Someone pulls the trigger
Someone straps the bombs on
Someone aims the missile
They all make decisions
All except the targets
They get blown away

It can’t be
These pictures can’t be real
Demolishing a nation
Killing moderation
Over there

I can’t see
How this can ever heal
Politicians lying
Frightened people dying
Over there

Armies do the fighting
No-one wants to be there
No-one wants to die there
No-one seems to listen
No-one hears the children
No-one has the answers
They all get blown away

This is a very emotional ride, Neil. Excellent work. I like the new adds and Fran really locks into the powerful intent of the song with his wonderful guitar work. Fantastic collab. Take care, Peter.

I’m hoping you are happy with the lyric… your detached delivery adds so much strength to the helplessness in the face of unfathomable obscenity… that guitar in my right ear is delicious… then as the solo began, I knew it was Fran before I looked up to read your description… really a perfect track

Ziti would approve. I miss Fran. Death takes the best too soon. Prostate cancer robbed us of this soulful man. He was what used to be called a righteous dude. I can’t comment on the politics here. The production is clean and supports the material perfectly. Well done!

Yes... Sadly still all too relevant. Great to hear your music again brother. Also brought a nostalgic tear to my eye hearing Fran's sublime playing once again. Keep on rockin' Neal!
