Song information
This song finds me reuniting with my old Goodwillys buddies for our first tune together in seventeen years.

It’s a song about moments of transcendence, whether experienced in nature, religious devotion, or through less orthodox means. (I’ve experienced them in all three ways over the years…)

Such moments can infuse life with meaning, and can put everything in perspective.

The boys in the band:

Yours truly on lyrics, vocals, acoustic guitar, and midi drums.
Vic Holman on electric lead guitar.
Jack Miller on saxophone.
Neil Porter on bass.

Special guest (and henceforth an honorary Goodwilly) Charlie Mazarakes on strings!

Enjoy!

Lyrics
ON A DAY LIKE THIS

I
Here I stand on this tiny grain of sand,
where I’m lost in a moment of time.

I’m transfixed in place, in the infinite space that surrounds me,
—the pleasure is all mine!

II
The sun it is shining, it makes me feel so fine;
it disperses the dark clouds from my mind.

It sets my heart aglow, and the love begins to flow,
on outwards, from it’s source way deep inside.

Chorus:
How did I come to be here,
in this grand eternal now?
Gratitude wells up from within!
Some kind of grace holds me fast in its embrace!

III
Here I stand on this grain of cosmic sand,
where I’m caught up in a moment of bliss.

It’s a fulness so sublime, man it’s good to be alive and aware,
on a day just like this.

It’s a fulness so sublime, man it’s great to be alive and aware,
on a day like this.

The sun it shines…
feels so fine…

It..sets…my…heart..a-glow…

Here I stand…
cosmic sand…

so…sublime
be…alive

on a day like this

Ha ha... Please forgive the last few lines... They were for possible BGVs... but I decided they would only clutter up the tune.

Thanks for joining in brother. Wouldn't have been much of a reunion without you. Sure glad Vic consented to play, even though he's not part of this community.

Scrubbed up well Mike.  Sounds like you had a worthwhile chat with the drummer 😀. I must get around to posting something here!

You were right about the drums. I have a tendency to get too busy with drums and cymbals. I'm glad you taked me into backing off!
So glad you joined in on this reunion track my friend. I've always dug your bass work!

Mark:
Glad you enjoyed it. Charlie did a great job on the strings. Filled the tune out nicely, and gave it more emotional impact.
Treb:
Thanks man. BTW, I've gotten that Warren Zevon comparison a few times over the years. It always puzzles me because I only know about three of his tunes! But I appreciate the compliment...
Shaun:
No. You certainly CAN'T "keep a Goodwilly down." I DARE anyone to try! Ha ha...

Great song. Great lyrics.
I love that picture where one of the Voyager probes took one last image looking back and Earth is only one tiny blue pixel.

Like the first full circle pic of the earth from space, this "pale blue dot" photo puts things in perspective.
How very small we are with our philosophies, theologies, ideologies, and so on.
Thanks for the thumbs up my friend!
